Transitioning from Fall to Winter

Well, November in Kansas City is starting off with three days in the 70’s so our transition from fall into a winter wardrobe may be a slow one, but it’s still important. Today’s blog has tips and tricks for “winterizing” your closet so you’re prepared for the best or worst of weather conditions for the next few months. Read the full blog for more suggestions!

Leather or tweed shorts are a perfect transitional piece to own. In the fall, wear them with booties and bare legs (you may still have a little of that summer tan to show off!). In the winter, pair with tights and tall boots to face the colder temps.

When it comes to transitioning my wardrobe from fall to winter, dresses are always a no-brainer. Shop dark tones/floral prints that can face the chill when you add tights, suede boots and a cardigan.

Switching from ankle booties to tall boots can instantly turn a cute fall look more winter-friendly. For selecting winter boots, choose colors that are darker and have a heavier fabric, like suede.

When shopping cardigans and jackets, be sure to consider their layerability (we just made that word up!). Does the thickness allow for layers to go under it? How about over it? Does it look good with layers? Does it look good by itself?

Pull out all those fall season basics that you invested in and figure out what you have that you will be able to easily layer in the upcoming winter months.  A lot of neutral pieces like turtlenecks, jackets, leggings, and T-shirts are all basics that can serve as new layering bases in the winter months.

Shop coats that are going to look good with everything in your closet, like blacks and brown coats. The robe coats are like a giant marshmallow wrapping its arms around you so the comfort-factor is there but be sure the flexibility is, too.
