Building a Capsule Wardrobe
Have you discovered the bliss of a capsule wardrobe? It’s a small collection of clothes you LOVE that look and feel great. By mixing and matching the combinations, you save money, time and those endless stares into the blackhole in your closet. In today’s blog, we’re discussing our key tips for creating a capsule.
We recommend starting with 5-6 tops, 5 bottoms and 1-2 dresses. As you spend a few weeks with your plan, you’ll get a feel for what pieces you need to add. That’s another reason to love a capsule wardrobe… you’ll be more focused on the right ways to invest when you go shopping. Now let’s get started…
Step 1: Select “Navy” or “Black” As Your Base Color
Step 2: Select Your Neutral-color Coordinating Essentials. These are tops and bottoms that are solid colors, like black, white, gray, chambray and beige. They are classic pieces that never go out of style. Examples of essentials are a white button-up shirt, gray short sleeve tee, beige sweater, white long sleeve tee, black skirt, etc.
Step 3: Choose Your Accent Color (optional) - Make sure your accent color coordinates with your base color, like pink or coral or green.
Step 4: Add A Few Patterned Items & Layers – These can be tops or bottoms and should go with nearly everything in your wardrobe. Consider polka dots, animal prints and florals.
Step 5: Choose your Shoes and Accessories – We recommend a pair or two in your base color (navy or black) and a nude or neutral pair. Add a casual pair, like sneakers, boots or sandals. For accessories, choose one or two handbags in black or beige. Add a few pieces of jewelry that work well with everything.
Congratulations! You’ve completed creating a capsule wardrobe. Now you can enjoy getting dressed faster, having many outfits to wear, having a neat closet and loving what you wear everyday!
